Watertight Queen’s Park want to bring in the bells at the summit of League Two

Ryan McGeever is relishing being part of the Queen’s Park iron curtain – and is determined to secure another shutout as the Spiders’ bid to end 2015 at the summit of League Two.

The Glasgow side have not conceded a goal in 444 minutes of league football during a fine run which has seen them move to within two points of leaders Annan Athletic.

And McGeever reckons Gus McPherson’s men are reaping the rewards of a work ethic second to none.

The 21-year-old lauded: “It’s four clean sheets in the league and we are doing really well at the moment. Myself, Scott Gibson, Bryan Wharton, Wullie Muir and the whole defensive unit have been solid recently.

“But it’s throughout the team, the boys work very hard for each other and the team spirit and desire not to concede is immense. We all want to put in the hard work needed to succeed.

“Everyone is starting to see that with the results recently. It took a wee bit of time to click, and we lost a few more games than we would like early on, but we are still right up there.”

If Queen’s Park defeat Berwick Rangers at the national stadium today and Annan fail to beat Barry Ferguson’s Clyde, the Spiders are guaranteed to bring in the bells at the top of League Two.

He continued: “In my opinion, we play the best football in the league. So it was only ever going to be a matter of time before we found some momentum.

“It would be great to end 2015 at the top of the table but, even if it doesn’t happen this weekend, we really feel like 2016 could be a special year at this club.”

The Hampden outfit have not tasted a league defeat since narrowly losing out in the semi-final of the Petrofac Training Cup with a 2-1 defeat against Forfar.

And McGeever is adamant that cup heartache has only strengthened their resolve to finish the campaign as champions.

The former Falkirk kid added: “That was a game we were very disappointed to lose but, to go so far in a cup competition and get the victories we did against teams like Dumbarton, has only made us more determined to succeed in the league.

“We played really well against Peterhead, just like we did against Forfar in our Scottish Cup defeat, and the fact we have gone toe-to-toe with them has given us the desire to say: ‘Let’s go up and be playing those teams every week.’”
