A HORRIFIED photographer thought he had stumbled across a grisly murder scene after discovering what appeared to be a dismembered body.

Andrew Smith clambered on to the roof of a former Woolworths store in Invernesson Monday evening to take pictures of the nearby town hall.

But the 42-year-old got the fright of his life when he glimpsed what appeared to be butchered remains.

Thankfully for Andrew, before dialling 999 he realised that what he was looking at was a discarded shop dummy, likely left there by Woolworths staff who occupied the building until the chain went bust.

Andrew was taking pictures of the town hall flying a French flag at half mast and was allowed on to the roof of the former Woolies store, now a Poundland.

He said: “When I found a position I was going to stand in to take a photo I saw that figure lying in the distance.

I was at the other side of the roof which is why it wasn’t immediately obvious it was a mannequin.

I never seriously thought it was a body – it was quite creepy.”

He added: “It’s only wearing one trainer but then, it’s only got one leg. It looks like it’s wearing either a suspender belt or a climbing harness.

I have no idea what someone would have been doing up there with a suspender wearing mannequin.

Maybe someone took it up there for a joke. The shop manager said it’s been there since the Woolworth’s closed.”

In September, horrified passers by called cops in Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, after mistaking a mannequin’s leg floating in a river for grisly human remains.
