Terry Butcher has been sacked for the second time in just 16 months after he was dismissed by Newport County.
The former Motherwell, Inverness and Hibernian boss took the reins of the Welsh club in April but endured a disastrous start to this season, winning just one of his 10 league games in charge.
He leaves Newport rock-bottom of League Two with five points on the board.
Chief scout Steve Marsella, who worked with Butcher in the Highlands and at Easter Road, has also been axed.
In a club statement, Newport confirmed: “After Tuesday’s defeat against Crawley Town, the club can announce that manager Terry Butcher has today left the club with immediate effect.
“It has been a difficult start to the season with the team only managing one win out of ten league games, and as a result we find ourselves bottom of the league.
“Newport County AFC would like to thank Terry and his staff for their efforts during their time at the club, and wish them every success for the future.”
His brief stint at Rodney Parade represents another miserable chapter in Butcher’s career, having been dismissed by Hibs last June.
After succeeding in guiding Inverness back to the top-flight and cementing their status as top-six contenders, Butcher left the club to replace Pat Fenlon in Leith.
However, it proved a disastrous appointment, with Hibs embarking on a run of one win in 15 matches as they slipped to relegation in the summer of 2014 after a playoff defeat to Hamilton.
Butcher was subsequently sacked by incoming chief executive Leeann Dempster, with Alan Stubbs taking charge.
Nevertheless, he was a success at the Caley Jags and enjoyed a largely positive four-year stint in charge of Motherwell despite battling financial problems at Fir Park .
Butcher, who has also managed Coventry, Sunderland, Sydney FC and Brentford, could be tempted to seek a return to Scottish football, with vacancies currently available Dundee United and his former club, Motherwell.
