The event, which included Mexican-themed activities throughout the day, also set new global sales records for the company.

Amazon, which opened its Dunfermline fulfilment centre in 2004, announced it sold more units on Prime Day than the biggest Black Friday ever – and had more new members try Prime worldwide than any single day in Amazon history

Customers ordered 34.4 million items across Prime-eligible countries, breaking all Black Friday records with 398 items ordered per second.

Prime Day was also a great savings day, as members globally saved millions on deals. Customers ordered hundreds of thousands of Amazon devices – making it the largest device sales day ever worldwide.

Speaking on the record-breaking day in Dunfermline, General Manager Gavin Morrison, said: “Prime Day in Dunfermline was a fantastic success and myself and the team here are delighted to have played a part in helping break a global sales record.

“With the event coinciding with Amazon’s 20th birthday, we decided to have a party for all of the staff on Prime Day. All of the associates on site really got into the party spirit and it was great to see the staff in Dunfermline have a great time on such a momentous day for Amazon.”
