SCOTS sports presenter Kirsty Gallacher has been caught wearing three inch heels on the St Andrews Links.
The Sky Sports presenter posted a snap of herself interviewing Open favourite Jordan Spieth wearing incredibly high stiletto heels.
The 39-year-old from Edinburgh, the daughter of the former Ryder Cup captain Bernard Gallacher, was berated by fans who claimed she “should know better”.
Some asked if she had repaired the damage to the home of golf ahead of the 144th Open Championship kicking off there this weekend. Others simply wondered how she managed to stay upright.
Golf has been played at the St Andrews Links, made up for seven courses including the Old Course, since the 15th century.
The club has some of the strictest rules in golf to preserve their flawless greens and fairways.
The dress code insists all players must wear “soft spikes” to protect the greens.
The club rules state: “Golfers should wear attire appropriate to the sport and clothing should not be scruffy or torn. The dress code in the clubhouses is smart/casual.
“Golfers are asked to wear plastic cleats or soft spikes as these do minimal damage to the greens.”
Kirsty, who was also wearing a tight sleeveless red top, must have been well out of view of the 50 plus greenkeepers on the windy site as she interviewed the pro golfer.
But those in Twitter were quick to spot her golfing faux pas.
TalkSport presenter Ben Jacobs tweeted: “How did you get away with wearing high heels on St Andrews hallowed fairways!?”
Fan Stephen Doyle ?said: Hope you fixed all those divots you made with those heels.”
Peter Stott ?chipped in with: “Heels on the golf course kirsty tut tut lol.”
“High heels on the golf course?” added Ryan Edwards, “I thought you would know better!”
Meanwhile Scott Garrett asked: “With them heels on that grass, how times you go on your arse?”
Commitment
However, some were more understanding. Victoria Martin told the presenter: “Love your commitment to heels!”
In total 50 full time employees and six full time mechanics maintain the manicured courses at St Andrews Links while a further 20 people are drafted into help in the summer.
Between April and October greens are cut every day while between November to March golfers even have to use fairway mats to protect the grass.
It is not the first time Kirsty has been caught out in less than suitable golfing attire.
She was victorious in the Sky Sports Masters challenge earlier this year, showing her colleagues up during a simulated studio golf competition despite wearing high heels and a dress.
