Buccleuch gundog trainer takes to the Galloway Country Fair arena for the first time

David Lisett, the gundog manager for the Duke of Buccleuch, will make his arena debut at this year’s Galloway Country Fair at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate.

Mr Lisett will demonstrate some of his canine friends from the Buccleuch kennels including Naughty Nora (or Nora the Explorer, depending on her mood) and Cracker the Mighty Atom.

He will take the audience through the teaching process, from puppy to adult dog, and will offer tips based on his expert training methods which demonstrate ways to get the best out of the dogs.

Mr Lisett became the gundog manager for the Duke of Buccleuch in January 2004 and during this time has enjoyed career highlights including winning the English Spring Spaniel Championships four times.

He said: “Going into the arena at Galloway Country Fair will be a great opportunity to show a wider audience what the Buccleuch gundogs are all about, and how a little hard work, perseverance and a good sense of humour can help train your dog – and, more importantly, build a bond with your dog.”

He added: “We will require a few helpers during the presentations, so we hope lots of children make it to the front row to be in with a chance of lending a hand in the arena.”

The annual fair takes place on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August, from 9am-6pm.

Tickets are priced at £12 for adults, £5 for ages 5-16, £10 for concessions and £30 for a family pass. Under-fives go free and a discount is available for those who purchase their tickets online before 31 July 2015.
