Scotland’s first ever tonic water has been launched.
Summerhouse Drinks is producing the new tonic in small batches on a family farm in the historic parish of Pitsligo which stretches down to the Moray Firth coast.
Made by combining quinine from cinchona bark with citric acid and a combination of botanicals it is believed to be the first Scottish version of the drink often served with gin.
The new tonic water is named after Walter Gregor, a Victorian Minister who served the Parish of Pitsligo.
The garden of the Manse, where Walter Gregor lived and worked, is being used to grow key botanicals for the new drink.
Claire Rennie, Managing Director of Summerhouse Drinks, said: “We’re so excited to have launched Scotland’s first ever tonic.
“There’s a renaissance of gin drinking in Scotland and indeed the rest of the UK and we look forward to offering a Scottish alternative to the tonics already available.”
Summerhouse Drinks already makes traditional Misty Lemonade, a Scottish Raspberry Lemonade, a Hint O’Mint made with mint and a Lavender Lemonade.
