Prize winning artist Rusudana Glonti will showcase her work at the inaugural Glasgow Contemporary Art Fair this weekend at the Old Fruitmarket.
The Russian born artist has lived in Scotland since 1999 and was awarded third prize in Artists & Illustrators Artist 2013 for her food inspired work ‘Tuscan Cuisine’.
Rusudana worked as a linguist before becoming a full-time artist and says her favourite artists are Sargent and Rembrandt.
“I try to follow the traditions of the realist artists of the 19th century, although recently I’ve been trying to loosen up my approach,” she explained.
Speaking of her prize winning work she said: “I was studying classical realism at the Angel Academy of Art in Florence when I created the work and the painting represents a very happy time in my life.
“I borrowed the pot from my landlord’s home in Tuscany. His entire property was filled with trinkets handed down to him from previous generations.
“I wanted to convey the sense of heritage in Italian cooking and I considered the copper pot an ideal symbol.”
Glasgow Contemporary Art Fair takes place between Friday 24th and Sunday 26th April.
