New beer flavour to celebrate Spring

A SCOTS brewing company is bringing out a unique flavour of beer to celebrate Spring.

St Andrews Brewing Company in Fife will debut their latest beer – a Rhubarb Saison – next month.

The rhubarb, grown at the St Andrews Botanic Gardens, will give the beer a slightly tart flavour and is expected to be a big hit for Spring.

Saisons are a fruity, peppery style of pale ale that originated in Belgium to be consumed by seasonal farm workers.

The micro-brewery, based in St Andrews Fife, produces a range of award-winning craft beers including a Mocha Porter, Crail Ale and The Wee Blonde.

They are continually adding to the range and have already used some unusual flavours such as pumpkin from the Botanic Gardens for a Halloween beer and chilli from Fife’s chilli farm Chillilicious.

Simon Tardivel, St Andrews Brewing Company, said: “Creating new, exciting brews is exactly what I believe a small, dynamic brewery like ours should do, It keeps us on our toes as brewers and keeps things fresh for those who love to try new flavours and styles.”

St Andrews Brewing Company launched in 2012 with 5 beers and have steadily grown their product portfolio since then producing around 1000 bottles a day, each hand-brewed, hand-bottled, hand-labelled and hand-date stamped.

In November 2013, they also opened a bar in the town – St Andrew’s first brew pub – which has proved successful and a great outlet to trial new flavours of beer. Their beer is also available in some high profile and respected restaurants and shops in the region including The Peat Inn, The Seafood Restaurant, Dolls House and Balgove Larder.

Councillor Lesley Laird, Fife Council’s Depute Leader, commented; “Fife is very lucky to have so many dynamic award-winning businesses. Year of Food and Drink presents a fantastic opportunity for us to promote Fife’s outstanding food and drink offering and it’s great to see local companies collaborating to develop such new and exciting products.”
