HORRIFIED residents have told how they saw a large pool of blood outside a flat where a man’s body was discovered at the weekend.
The middle-aged man was found slumped on the common stair of a block of flats in Edinburgh on Sunday evening.
Witnesses said they saw three people taken away by police following the death in the Leith area of the city.
Police Scotland confirmed they were investigating and said the death was “unexplained”.
One resident, who asked not to be named, said: “I think it could be a stabbing.
“I first saw the police and ambulances outside and then heard them in the stair.
“When I went out into the stair I saw a big pool of blood next to the door, and I could hear people in the flat.
“There are two people that live in the flat, but they are in their late twenties I think. I saw three people walk out of the flat with police when the forensics were here.”
He added: ““There are always a lot of people coming and going from the flat, so I don’t know who it could be, I just know there are always quite a few people there, as well as the two people that I know live there.”
Another local, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “It’s really quite scary when you see people coming out in the white overalls. I’ve never seen so many police around here at all, or forensics.”
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said they were investigating “following the discovery of a man’s body in the common stair of a flatted property in Portland St, Leith around 6pm on Sunday.
“The death of the middle aged man is currently being treated as unexplained.”
