A THIRTY-strong mob brandishing golf clubs terrorised an Asian family at their home.
Neighbours described the terrifying moment the gang – who hid their faces with scarves – set on two teenagers in the Drylaw area of Edinburgh.
The 18-year-old victims were subjected to sickening racial abuse and pelted with stones, forcing them to take refuge inside their home.
A woman and children were also sheltering in the house during the incident, which happened at around 9pm on Monday night.
One resident who asked not to be named said: “To see the youths all armed with wood and golf clubs attacking a single male and his mother has really shocked me.
“These youths could see children at the house windows and still smashed the windows in.
“Absolutely disgusting behaviour from these local youths, the parents of these idiots need spoken to about how their kids behave.
“I know at least two of these idiots and statements have been given to the police , this is the first time I’ve ever felt disgusted to live in this area, and no wonder people give it a bad name .
“So disgusted at the racist abuse that was given tonight.”
Lisa Burns said: “I seen a load of people at around 9 last night. I was walking home from Morrisons up to west Pilton road. A few of them were bragging about weapons they had, scared me.”
Inspector David Happs said: “As a result of being struck by rocks, one of the victims suffered an injury to his arm. In addition the property both men share was also damaged and we are undertaking a thorough enquiry to bring those responsible to justice.
“This incident is being treated as racially-motivated and we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the West Pilton Terrace area on Monday evening and witnessed the disturbance or who saw anything suspicious.
“In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this investigation is also asked to contact police immediately.
“Police Scotland is committed to tackling hate crime in all its forms and the local community within Drylaw can rest assured we are devoting appropriate resources to this investigation and offering all the necessary support to both victims.”
