A woman dies after being hit by motorcycle while walking on the pavement

PARAMEDICS battled in vain to save the life of a woman knocked down on the pavement in a horrific accident yesterday.
The victim was thrown into the road after a car reportedly collided with a motorbike which then mounted the pavement in Leith, Edinburgh.
Despite ambulance crews spending 15 minutes trying to resuscitate the young woman, she was later pronounced dead at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Police cordoned off a large section of Great Junction Street as fire crews dealt with spilt fuel.
One woman, who asked not to be named, said: “A car has hit a motorbike and the motorbike has been forced up onto the pavement where it hit a woman who was flung onto the road.
“They were trying to resuscitate her for 15 minutes before they moved her. There was blood all over the road.
“It’s such a shame. She’s quite young. She could be someone’s mother.”

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed that the woman had died.
He said: “Great Junction Street was busy with traffic and pedestrians at the time of the collision, and we are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident.
“Anyone who saw what happened, who has not yet contacted police, should contact Police Scotland on 101 as soon as possible.”
