THE HOME of murderer David Gilroy is up for sale just 12 days after his wife agreed to sell to pay of mortgage debts.
Gilroy’s three-bedroomed, detached villa in Edinburgh has been put on the market for offers over £245,000.
The home of the 45-year-old, who is serving life for the murder of bookkeeper Suzanne Pilley, is said by estate agents to be in need of “some modernisation and cosmetic upgrading”.
His wife Andrea, 45, who continues to back her husband, was told she and her two children would have to leave the home at a court hearing last week.
The Bank of Scotland took Gilroy and his wife to Edinburgh Sheriff Court on August 23 as they were failing to pay the loan they had secured on the property in the Silverknowes area of the city.
Lawyers acting on behalf of the bank told Sheriff Nigel Ross that Mrs Gilroy had agreed to put the property on the market.
A court heard last week that Mrs Gilroy had missed a number of mortgage payments on her house, which the couple bought for £210,000 in 2003.
It is not known how much Mrs Gilroy owed the bank.
The sales details for the property describe it as a “substantial detached villa, pleasantly situated in popular residential area”.
The substantial back garden, according to the estate agents, “offers a great space for enjoying pleasant days.”
The garden also provides potential buyers with a “scope for extending the property if desired.”
Within minutes from Cramond beach and the Silverknowes esplanade there are a number of opportunities for “pleasant walks” and other “recreational” activities near by.
A new combination boiler was installed in the property in 2012, according to the sale details which also state that all carpets, blinds, curtains and light fittings will be left in the house.
The property is also in the catchment area for one of the city’s top performing state schools, the Royal High.
David Gilroy was convicted of murdering his former lover Suzanne, 38, after she disappeared in May 2010.
Ms Pilley was last seen when making her way to work at Infrastructure Managers Ltd in Thistle Street, Edinburgh, where Gilroy also worked .
The bookmaker was last seen on CCTV at North St David Street at 8.54am.
Ms Pilley’s parents reported her missing after she failed to turn up to work.
The conviction of Gilroy was hailed as a landmark case, as Ms Pilley’s body has never been found.
Police believe he killed her in the basement of the office where they worked and buried her body somewhere in Argyll.
The evidence used to convict Gilroy included pictures of scratches on his hands, which he had tried to cover up with make-up, and a voicemail message where he pleaded with her to meet with him. Gilroy also had markings on his chest.
Gilroy has always denied killing his ex-lover and says that he has been wrongfully convicted.
