POLICE are hunting a road rage motorcyclist who punched a van driver in the head as he sat at traffic lights.
The 62-year-old victim had been involved in “disagreement” with the rider of a dirt-bike near Dechmont, West Lothian, on Tuesday morning.
After the exchange, the driver of the white Nissan van drove off in the opposite direction down a narrow residential street.
The furious biker pursued the van and pulled alongside at a set of traffic lights.
The biker, who was wearing gloves with plastic knuckle covers designed to reduce injuries in an accident, punched the wing mirror and then hit the driver in the head.
He then shouted abuse and drove off.
The driver was said to be unharmed but police are appealing for witnesses in the incident.
The suspect is described as white but tanned, heavily built, 5ft 9ins tall, with a local accent.
He was wearing an open-faced scrambler-style helmet with a distinctive front peak, scramble bike clothing and black leather gloves.
The bike was described as a scrambler-style dirt bike with chunky off-road tyres and a registration plate that showed the numbers five and two.
A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “The victim was unable to defend himself and while he wasn’t hurt, he was left badly shaken, and we are appealing for any information that can help us trace the suspect.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who was in the area at the time and noticed the bike, should contact police.
“Likewise, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect, or who has any other information that can assist our enquiries, should also get in touch.”
