A 29-year-old man from Glenrothes has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with the alleged £1million fire-raising which occurred at the town’s Tullis Russell Papermill in December.
Detective Inspector Scott Davidson, who has been overseeing the enquiry, said: “I would like to thank members of the public who came forward with the necessary information which allowed us to make this arrest.
“Last December, had it not been for the quick response of the emergency services, this reckless act could have had a devastating effect on the workforce and local community.”
Temporary Chief Inspector Charlie Duncan added: “Although this was an isolated incident, considerable efforts were made to trace the culprit. Reported crime in Glenrothes, like many other areas throughout Fife, is falling and whilst we have seen a decrease in incidents of anti-social behaviour and crimes of violence, our detection rate for all reported crime is at an all-time high.
“As we move forward into 2012, we seek to make Glenrothes a safer place to live, and the support of the local community, of which this is an excellent example, has assisted greatly in our success to date.”
