Five people charged over drug offences

A recent operation by the Nigg local policing team in Garthdee and Kincorth has led to five people being charged over drugs offences.

The operation, which has run over the past few weeks, has also seen 12 people charged in relation to road traffic offences, including speeding. One person has been detained in relation to immigration offences.

In the drugs part of the operation, 30 people were stopped and searched based on intelligence. As a result, quantities of cannabis and diazepam worth in excess of £4,500 were recovered. Five people have been charged in connection.

Furthermore, the visible presence of officers and their engagement with the communities resulted in positive feedback from a number of residents.

Nigg Local Policing Inspector Mark Cochrane said: “This recent police activity shows we are continuing to listen to the local community and acting on their concerns.

“We want our area to be as safe as it possibly can be, and we will continue to listen and deal with the small minority who are causing problems.

“We will continue to target offenders and the drug dealing affecting local communities and hope our increased visibility in the community reassures local people.

“Accordingly I encourage members of the public to come forward with information regarding any form of criminal activity in their area so we can take positive action.”
