Scottish textiles firm wraps up major deal with Daks

A SCOTTISH textile manufacturer has just signed a deal worth £600k with iconic UK fashion brand Daks.

Moorbrook Textiles Ltd., which produces woven textile products at its manufacturing plants in Ayr and Peebles, has secured a licensee agreement for the next three years to supply the store with custom-made scarves under the Daks label.

The new contract contributes to the significant development the company has witnessed over the past few months. The Moorbrook Textiles Group comprises of Alex Begg & Company, Robert Noble and Replin Fabrics and over the past year it has seen a 21% growth.

The company now anticipates the recruitment of six new full-time staff members at its Peebles site over the next six months and an apprentice employment programme – taking on a total of four modern apprentices – at both sites.

Ian Laird, managing director, Moorbrook Textiles Ltd. said: “We’re delighted to be working with such a quintessentially British brand like Daks. Being associated with one of the UK’s major fashion companies that installs values of quality, reliability and innovation is a huge compliment.

“Our growth over the past year has been significant and we are thrilled to have the capacity to bring more people into the Moorbrook family. Our first apprentice has started at our Ayr site and we’re excited about providing the opportunity to nurture the talents of young people in Scotland who want to develop skills within the textiles manufacturing industry.”

Cathy Black, head of textiles, Scottish Enterprise, said: “Moorbrook Textiles’ continued growth and significant contract win is a true testament of the quality of product being manufactured in Scotland.

“It’s also wonderful to see this Scottish textiles firm investing in young people, offering them the chance to build their careers in an exciting and modern industry.”
