Step back in time at dramatic Dumbarton Castle

VISITORS to Dumbarton Castle will be able to step back in time and experience its colourful past this Saturday (24th March).

The castle is hosting a ‘Soldiers and Siege’ event where visitors can find out about why 17th century Scotland was torn by war, when Covenanters and Royalist troops clashed to gain control of the castles and forts throughout the country.

Costumed performers from re-enactment group ‘Fraser’s Dragoones’ will be providing a taste of life during the siege of 1640. This will include a display of musket fire as well as the opportunity to find out about a soldier’s life at this time.

Gareth Cheeseman, events manager for Historic Scotland said: “The 1640’s were a turbulent time in Scotland’s history.

“Dumbarton Castle, because of its location, played an important role at key periods in history and this event is a fantastic opportunity to find out more about the castle’s past.

Visitors can experience the sounds, smells and sights of battle through the ages.

“The event is a great day out for all the family. The soldiers in all their regalia is an impressive sight – as is the sound of musket fire bellowing from this ancient rock, and we look forward to welcoming visitors this weekend.”

Soldiers and Siege at Dumbarton Castle takes place from 12.00 noon to 4pm on Saturday 24th March. Entry is included in the admission price (Adults: £4.50, Children: £2.70, Concession: £3.60, Members: Free).
