A FRAIL pensioner has had thousands of pounds stolen from him by a bogus workman.
The 85-year-old man was targeted in his home in Kirkgunzeon, Dumfries and Galloway, on Wednesday afternoon by two men claiming to be from the council.
They told him they were going to clear his drains and persuaded him to hand over £3000 for materials.
They promised to return today to carry out the work. . The victim called the council after the men left and was told that they had no knowledge of the pair.
Police believe the men could be driving a white Peugeot car.
The first man is aged between 25 and 30 years, about 5’ 10” tall and slight build. He has short light brown hair and spoke with a Scottish accent.
At the time he was wearing a white coloured jumper type top with small grey or brown rectangle shapes.
The second man is about 18 or 19 years of age, 5’ 11” tall, thinner than the first man and had unkempt medium length hair.
He was wearing a light blue t-shirt, open necked and light coloured trousers.
On the same day another man was targeted in Annan, almost 100 miles away.
At around 3.40pm the 83-year-old was greeted by two men clearing leaves from his path.
The pair told him they would be charging him for the work. When the homeowner refused to pay they drove off in a yellow coloured van.
The first man is in his 30s, 5’ 10” tall, with short brown hair and he was wearing a light brown jacket. The second man was shorter than the first.
