A selection of undergarments belonging to Queen Victoria, including a large pair of silk bloomers valued at £3,000, are to be sold at Lyon & Turnbull’s auction of the Forbes Collection on the 1st November in Edinburgh.
Included in the sale are the pair of bloomers, three pairs of her silk stockings, a lace nightgown worn by the Queen and a pair of her gloves. They sit alongside over five hundred royal paintings, letters, furniture and other antique treasures from Old Battersea House, the London home of the Forbes family, the US publishing dynasty. Valued between £1.5 – 2 million, the contents of their London home have played host to the world’s rich and famous, including Ronald Reagan, European Royalty and Elizabeth Taylor, who stayed at the house on her honeymoon.
