A CALLOUS motorist ordered a walker to “get that dog on a leash” just moments after mowing his family’s beloved pet down.
Murray Shand was walking nine-year-old Hamish in Forfar, Angus, last month when the tiny Yorkshire Terrier slipped his lead.
The pup made hit way to the front of stationary traffic queuing at nearby traffic lights but the van driver at the head of the line ran the dog over before driving off, pausing only to yell the cruel jibe.
A vet discovered Hamish had suffered a perforated bladder and, rather than let their pet live his life with difficulty the family made the heartbreaking decision to put their pet to sleep.
Last night Mr Shand’s wife, Nicola called the decision ”the hardest I’ve ever had to make.”
She said: said: ”Hamish slipped his lead but the traffic was stopped. He was standing in the middle of the road but that driver just went into him.”
She also praised a pedestrian who had helped her husband after the September 22 incident as “incredibly selfless”.
