THIEVES made off with a large sum of money after robbing a city bookmaker’s at knifepoint.

The Ladbrokes on Edinburgh’s Gorgie Road was targeted around 3pm yesterday (tues).

It follows a spate of similar incidents across the city in recent months, however police say they are not linking the crimes.

A 25-year-old woman was working alone within the shop when a man entered and presented a knife before demanding money from the till.

The man then made off down Westfield Road with hundreds of pounds in cash.

SUSPECT

The suspect is described as white, 25-30-years-old with short hair and a gaunt and freckled complexion. He was wearing a light-coloured hat with a dark band, Burberry-type scarf, green jacket, blue jeans and white trainers.

A police spokesman said: “This was an incredibly frightening experience for the store worker, who was alone within the premises at the time of the robbery and we are keen to speak to anyone who can assist us in identifying the man responsible.

The incident took place in the middle of the afternoon and there would potentially be a number of people in the area around Ladbrokes who may have seen the suspect before or after the robbery.

“Officers are not linking this to previous robberies at city bookmakers but would ask anyone with information that can assist with their enquiries to contact police immediately.”
