The body was found by a man walking his dog

A POLICE investigation is underway after a body was found on a beach in St Andrews.
The body of a 68-year-old local man was found at the high water line of the East Sands beach in St Andrews at 5.30 this morning, suggesting it may have been washed up.
Police said the man, who has not been named, is described as being heavily-built with a receding hairline. He was wearing a light green fleece and dark blue trousers.
It’s believed the beach has been closed between a local sailing club and the harbour and the body was found in an area known locally as the Burn Stools.
The beach is just a few minutes walk from the famous Old Course.
It is understood the Coastguard were informed but are no longer involved in the operation.
The beach in the golf resort is popular with dog walkers.
A police spokesman said:
“A body has been discovered on the high water line of the East Sands in St Andrews.”
An eyewitness said: “They had the body in a body bag but the police are remaining tight lipped.
“It’s right up next to the wall of a waterbreak near a set of stairs leading onto the beach. ”
No details about the body have been released but it was removed from the beach around 10.30am.
Detective Inspector Graham Fenton, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are in the very early stages of this investigation but this death does not appear to be suspicious at this time.
“I ask anyone who may have seen this man in or around St Andrews area in the past few days or has any other information to contact the police on 0845 600 5702. “
