Aberdeenshire rhapsody as Queen legend trumps Donald

LEGENDARY Queen guitarist Brian May has given his outspoken backing to Scots campaigners fighting Donald Trump’s golf resort plans.

Aberdeenshire residents fighting against the compulsory purchase of their homes wrote to May asking for permission to use Bohemian Rhapsody in a protest video.

Brian May, seen here at Edinburgh's Playhouse, was "disgusted" by Trump's plan

A “disgusted” May wrote back: “I can see there is a horrible example here of bullying the defenceless by a rich man who apparently can buy anything he wants.”

Referring to 86-year-old protester Molly Forbes, who faces eviction and financial ruin, he added: “I deplore this kind of abuse and feel greatly for Molly and the others who are being ridden over by a very selfish man.

“What the world certainly does not need is more golf courses. I am disgusted.”

May, who now devotes much of his time to environmental and animal welfare issues, said he “sincerely hoped” what he called a “nasty project” would be stopped.

“I will do what I can to bring it a little more out in the open. I’m happy to secure you permission to try this yourself [make a Bohemian Rhapsody video].”

May was contacted by Scottish poet Hazel Cameron who wanted to use music to highlight the eviction threat.

She said: “I thought the words of Bohemian Rhapsody would be absolutely perfect if they were just slightly changed.

“And with the use of a Spitting Image-style character, you could have Donald Trump singing it, regretting the damage he has done.”

Molly Forbes is also likely to feature in the video.

She went to court to challenge Trump and the local council over the decision to approve permission for the resort.

Molly had to drop the case after the Scottish Legal Aid Board (SLAB) refused to fund it. A judge then ordered that Molly should pay court costs for both sides.

However, SLAB recently announced it was reconsidering whether to pay for Molly’s original case.
