AN ELDERLY man has died following a fire in his Edinburgh home in the early hours of today (mon).
Firefighters were called to attendĀ the blaze in a ground floor flat at 22 Hutchison Cottages, Slateford, shortly after 2am.
Upon their arrival, the body of the 80-year-old resident was discovered.
Two fire engines from Sighthill used six sets of breathing apparatus and two high pressure hose reels to put out the fire.
A spokesperson for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews attended 22 Hutchison Cottages where the ground floor flat was well alight.
“The fire investigations unit is still in attendance to discover the cause of the fire.”
The name of the man was not expected to be released until any relatives had been informed.
