POLICE are searching for an elderly man who came to the aid of a pregnant woman when she was allegedly assaulted in Edinburgh.
The man bravely intervened to stop the alleged assault in the Leith area of the Capital last Sunday (November 14).
Both the woman and her alleged assailant were within the Tam O’ Shanter bar on Great Junction Street around 7pm when an argument broke out between the pair.
On leaving the premises they continued to argue, and she was pushed to the ground.
At this point the elderly man stepped in to help the victim, but was himself assaulted, suffering a facial injury as a result.
He is believed to be in his sixties and walked with the assistance of a cane.
A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with both assaults, and appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday (November 22).
A police spokesman said: “The man showed real bravery to intervene in the assault, and we need to trace him in order that he can assist us with our inquiries.
“We would urge the man to get in touch with police as soon as possible. Similarly, if anyone knows of his identity then they should also contact us.”
