A YOUNG GIRL from Fife has died during a school trip to London, police have confirmed.

The 14-year-old died in the early hours of Wednesday morning, just a day after she arrived in the capital for a Modern Studies holiday.

She was with classmates from St Columba’s High in Dunfermline and believed to be in the third year at the school.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at around 2am and rushed to the Travelodge in the Kings Cross area of the city.

She was rushed to University College Hospital where she was pronounced dead just after arrival.

Metropolitan Police officers are investigating the death but there don’t seem to be any suspicious circumstances.

Councillor Douglas Chapman from Fife Council visited the school this morning and said: “It was a very tragic set of circumstances.”

Arrangements are being made for the other children to return to home early to Fife after the tragic incident.

The council said they expected to release a statement later today.

A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called by London Ambulance Service at 0208hrs on Wednesday, 23 June, to the Travelodge hotel in Kings Cross Road, WC1.

“A 14-year-old girl was taken by ambulance to University College Hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

“Islington officers are investigating to establish the circumstances of the death.

“The death is not believed to be suspicious at this early stage.”

An ambulance service spokesman said: “We were called just after quarter to two this morning to an incident at an address on Kings Cross Road.

“One single responder, two ambulance crews and a duty officer went to the scene and our staff treated a teenage girl and took her as a priority to University College Hospital.”
