TWO MOTORISTS had a lucky escape when they were pulled from their burning car by passer bys.

The man and woman were in a car that crashed on the A7 near Hawick in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The motor burst into flames after the collision just before 2am yesterday (Sunday), with the two people trapped inside.

But luckily, a passing taxi driver and lorry driver saw the blaze and stopped to help.

Smashing the sunroof, the brave passer-bys dragged the pair free of the inferno and called the emergency services.

Thanks to their rescuers, the car’s occupants escaped with minor injuries and were taken to Borders General Hospital to recover.

Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene and put out the burning car.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “One car was involved in a road traffic accident on the A7 just outside Hawick.

“One male and one female were rescued by a passing lorry driver and taxi driver who smashed the sun roof and pulled both free of the car.

“They were taken to Borders General Hospital with superficial injuries.”
