By Shaun Milne

BEST selling author Nick Hornby has been added to the line up for this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Hornby, who was behind novels later turned into movies including Fever Pitch, High Fidelity and About A Boy, is also an Academy Award nominated screenwriter for his adaptation of Lynn Barber’s memoir, An Education.

He will be interviewed on stage on Thursday, June 17, at Cineworld in Edinburgh, as part of the festival’s ‘In Person’ series.

Festival bosses also announced today (fri) that documentary Countdown to Zero, produced by Laurence Bender who was behind Al Gore’s environmental film An Inconvenient Truth, is to be screened on June 18.

Premiere

Lucy Walker’s hard-hitting documentary on the global arms race will have its UK premiere in Edinburgh at 5.30pm in the city’s Filmhouse.

Also added to the line up on Thursday June 24 is musician Nick Cave who is to appear at the Roxy Art House event Irregular, reading from his novel The Death of Bunny Munro, before a screening of his award winning short film The Archivist.

EIFF Artistic Director Hannah McGill said: “We’re thrilled by these late additions, all of which are very special.

“Nick Hornby’s event represents a great coming-together of literature and film, centred on one of Britain’s most respected and popular writers of both novels and screenplays.

“Lucy Walker is one of the UK’s most brilliant and ambitious filmmakers, and Countdown to Zero is incendiary work.

“As for Nick Cave – what can I say? He has been a hero of mine for a good half of my life, and I could not be more excited that he’s coming to Irregular.”

Tickets are available to buy from Box Office, online and by phone. IRREGULAR tickets are only available to purchase directly from the venue at www.roxyarthouse.org or in person.

The festival runs from June 16 to 27.
