FIREFIGHTERS braved sub zero temperatures to rescue a man from a ditch who had been sledging on Arthur’s Seat.

A fourteen strong crew raced to the scene at 12.22am on Friday morning after an ambulance team called for their help.

The 20-year-old man – who was thought to have a head injury – was hauled from the gully in Holyrood Park thanks to a line rescue team.

A Lothian and Borders Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 11.12pm on Thursday evening that a man was between Salisbury Crags and Arthur’s Seat.

“We were told that the male had been sledging and had a head injury.”

He was carried by stretcher from the bottom of Queen’s Drive to the ambulance and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary at 1.30am.
