Palestine Action protesters target hazardous waste management company in Edinburgh and Glasgow

PALESTINE Action Scotland, a group that critiques Scottish complicity with Israel’s regime, has targeted Biffa Ltd with action in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Biffa is a waste management company that disposes of hazardous waste for weapons companies Leonardo and Thales.

Leonardo has been the subject of significant pro-Palestine protest, with its Edinburgh factory blockaded in December last year.

The group spray painted the building with red paint, writing “drop Leonardo, drop Thales” on the wall.

Palestine Action Scotland calls for an end to Scottish complicity in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and has organised significant action against companies who supply the country with weapons.

Italian-owned Leonardo is one of the biggest arms manufacturers in the world, and supplies Israel with laser targeting systems for their F-35 fighter jets.

Though a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas is currently underway after almost a year and a half of war, Palestinians have returned to find Gaza reduced to rubble.

Over 47,000 Palestinians were killed during this time and around 1,700 Israeli, as both sides now release hostages held over this period.

Palestine Action posted a video earlier this week, showing protesters smearing the Biffa building with red paint and spraying crosses on its logo.

They said: “Breaking: Palestine Action Scotland target Biffa Ltd in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

“Biffa dispose of hazardous waste for Leonardo and Thales, two weapons companies arming Israel’s genocidal regime.”

French firm Thales is an arms company with links to Elbit Systems – the primary provider of Israeli military’s drones and land-based equipment.

Last week, Palestine Action launched Europe-wide action against Allianz, who are said to insure Elbit, with many premises targeted including their offices on Glasgow’s Waterloo Street.

Images were shared of the smashed doors with red paint dripping down the windows and a police cordon blocking the entrance.

A Palestine Action spokesperson said: “Weapons factories arming Israel’s genocidal regime rely on a network of other companies in order to operate their deadly trade.

“Therefore, Palestine Action Scotland is targeting each of the links in Israel’s military supply chain.

“All firms who profit from Palestinian bloodshed must cease their complicity or expect Palestine Action.”
