Essential engineering works to be carried out on trams with section of route closed for three days

A SECTION of the Edinburgh tram network will be closed for three days this month as essential engineering works are carried out on the track.

Works on the network are expected to begin on 14 February with trams not running between Balfour Street and the West End.

The works will see replacement track points installed at York Place and are expected to end on 17 February.

Tram stops at McDonald Road, Picardy Place, St Andrew Square, and Princes Street will be closed while the works are underway.

The tram works will last for three days.

Trams will still operate between Edinburgh Airport and the West End and between Newhaven and Balfour Street on an amended timetable.

Tram tickets will be accepted on some Lothian Buses services and all ScotRail trains between Waverly and Haymarket stations to avoid disruption.

Commuters can use their tram tickets on the 16, 25 and 100 bus services to get along Princes Street.

Edinburgh Trams will be issuing updates on the works as they progress on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

The installation of the new track points are described as “essential engineering works” by Edinburgh Trams.

Marilena Papadopoulou, Edinburgh Trams renewals manager, said: “These works are part of a wider programme to maintain the system, and we’re doing all we can to keep the city moving once they are underway.

“Members of our team will be on hand at key locations to offer travel advice at stations, and to help customers complete their onward journeys.

“We would ask customers to allow a little extra time for their journeys, and we would like to thank them in advance for their understanding while we undertake these necessary works.”
