EAST Lothian residents are expected to face major delays as a main road connecting Musselburgh to Midlothian is set to close for “essential” works.
The closure of a long stretch of the B6145, better known as Old Craighall Road, is due to come into effect on 10 February, and will last for four days.
Old Craighall Road is a main connecting road between East Lothian and Midlothian that runs under the city bypass.
East Lothian Council are carrying out the works and will work to maintain pedestrian access while repairs are underway.
Residents of East Lothian likely to be affected by the road closure were sent letters detailing the plans.
The letter included a screengrab of a Google Maps route, seven miles long, suggested as an alternative for residents to use while the works took place.
The Prentice service 111 bus to the Royal Infirmary will also be affected by the road closure with the bus being rerouted to avoid delays.
A taxi service will be run by East Lothian council to shuttle residents along the bus route where necessary.
The taxi will operate between Old Craighall and Musselburgh Tesco at 6:30am, 9:30am, 12:30pm, 3:30pm and 6:30pm, and between Musselburgh Tesco and Old Craighall at 6:45am, 9:45am, 12:45pm, 3:45pm and 6:45pm.
Between Millerhill and Newton Village, the taxi will run at 7:30am, 10:30am, 1:30pm, 4:30pm and 7.30pm, and between Newton Village and Millerhill at 7:40am, 10:40am, 1:40pm, 4:40pm and 7:40pm.
An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this work may cause.
“The council have coordinated these carriageway repairs with Cala Homes.
“By carrying out the respective works simultaneously, this will help to reduce any future disruption in the area.
“We are now using www.tellmescotland.govuk to inform the public about major roadworks. This website will also be updated with any changes to the works.”
