ScotRail to add extra carriages for fans attending Murrayfield

SCOTRAIL is set to give those attending the Guinness Six Nations at Murrayfield a boost by adding additional carriages to trains.

This is due to the expected increase in passenger numbers both before and after the match.

ScotRail is adding additional carriages to trains on routes in and out of Edinburgh throughout the day, including between Edinburgh Waverley and Fife, Perth, and the Borders Railway.

Fans have also been told to expect longer waiting times for trains home due to ongoing access restrictions at Haymarket station caused by the redevelopment of an adjacent building.

The building work has restricted access to Haymarket and reduced the capacity within the station by half.

Fans have been asked to consider travelling straight to Edinburgh Waverley after the final whistle to reduce their need to queue or postpone their travel home until later in the evening.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail customer operations director, said: “Everyone at ScotRail is looking forward to helping rugby fans travel to watch Scotland take on Italy in their opening match of the Six Nations this weekend.

“We’ll be doing all we can to make their journey a seamless one by adding more seats to trains to and from Edinburgh throughout the day.

“Customers should plan ahead as services are expected to be busy, and we’d also encourage customers to buy their return mTickets in advance on the ScotRail app.”

The men’s national team host Italy in their first match of the campaign at Scottish Gas Murrayfield on Saturday, 1 February, at 2:15pm.
