Scots warned away from “scam” after Pokémon card vending machine allegedly dispenses empty packs

SCOTS have been warned to stay away from a Pokémon card vending machine after it was filmed allegedly dispensing empty packets of cards.

The machine in Overgate Shopping Centre, Dundee, charges customers for packs of Pokémon cards.

However, it was filmed by one user yesterday dispensing an empty packet to paying customers which led to them branding it a “scam”.

The machine charges £5 for the packs of cards with several customers claiming to have been left disappointed by the empty packets.

According to the woman sharing the video, the machine is not officially licensed by Pokémon, with a separate company operating it.

Packs of cards come out of the machine sellotaped which suggests they have been previously opened and emptied.

It’s alleged that some of the packs of cards come out completely emptied while others come out with bad cards inside.

Pokémon cards can sell for hundreds of pounds but allegedly, no cards of this rarity or value are dispensed by this machine.

The woman who shared the video said: “Don’t buy from this machine, go to a local game shop, go to a Waterstones, do not buy from this machine.

“I know I am an adult and a card collector.

“I just hate to think how many families, parents, children who have bought this and not even realised they’ve been scammed, it’s ridiculous.”

Sharing her post to social media yesterday the woman said: “Scam in Dundee Overgate.

“If your kids ask to buy from these machines, don’t do it. Buy it from the kids toy shop upstairs. Cheaper and not a scam.”

The post has received over 100 likes and more than two dozen comments from locals and social media users who claimed to have similar experiences.

One user wrote: “I used this machine once when it first came about. It took my money and didn’t give me anything.

“My daughter who’s Pokémon obsessed [was] so upset and now walks past it and shouts ‘scam machine’ every time.”

Another replied: “Ahin (sic) in the Overgate feels like a scam now. Good for you hen.”

A third added: “Have you thought about showing this to the Overgate management?”
