Edinburgh local hits out after spotting slew of cars parked on verge, destroying grass

AN EDINBURGH local has hit out at careless motorists leaving their cars parked on grass verges resulting in the turf being torn up and destroyed.

The vehicles were spotted on Clermiston Road, with the local pointing out that the road has no parking restrictions.

Vehicles are free to park on the street, but it seems some motorists have chosen to mount the kerb and leave their cars on the grass verge.

Images show the damage the cars have done to the verge with the grass being ripped up and muddied.

There are extensive tyre marks on the grass and big gouges ripped out of the earth where the cars have parked.

The verge was also made impassable for pedestrians by the parked cars with one vehicle, a white Hyundai, driving all the way over a pavement to park on the grass.

Pavement parking restrictions in Auld Reekie also apply to the grass verges with the vehicles technically being parked illegally.

This hasn’t deterred the motorists though, with five cars being spotted by the local despite the restrictions on their poor parking.

The parking forces pedestrians to walk along the road or through filthy patches of mud created by the cars.

The majority of the cars seen in the images are large 4×4 style vehicles leaving little room on the verge for walkers.

Sharing images of the vehicles to social media yesterday, the local said: “Hi Edinburgh City Council

“Any chance you could remind the public that grass verges can’t be parked on, just like pavements?

“The cars in these photos are on Clermiston Road, opposite the gate to Corstorphine Hill.

“There are no restrictions here, so parking on the road is okay. What a mess.”

The post received a slew of support from other locals who were likewise upset by the state the grass was left in.

One replied on social media saying: “Shame on them, look at the state of that grass.” ]

The local who spotted the parked cars said today: “I suspect that some may think they’re being helpful by not blocking traffic, but meanwhile they’re making a right mess of the grass.”
