New director joins Lindsays Edinburgh commercial team

A NEW director has joined legal firm Lindsays with the company expecting it to boost Scotland’s construction sector.

Michael Kitson is a new director at the company and will join the commercial team based in Edinburgh.

Michael’s role will see him advise developers, contractors, and funders involved in various building projects across the country.

It is hoped his arrival will coincide with falls in interest rates, which will lead to more development opportunities.

He has 14 years of experience in the sector, having most recently worked for BTO.

Michael said: “I am excited to get started and to begin the new year with a fresh challenge.

“Being part of the team at Lindsays offers me new opportunities and to enjoy the culture that the firm offers, having heard so many good things about it.”

“The challenges which have faced the construction sector in recent years are no secret, but things are expected to get better for the industry this year.

“Good advice on how to structure and approach projects from a legal perspective can make a real difference in ensuring that emerging opportunities can be fully realised.

“Many are anticipating an increase in activity across the commercial property industry, particularly if interest rates continue to ease.

“That will create extra work for the construction and property sectors.”

Lindsays lawyers advise developers, contractors and funders on the full spectrum of property and construction legal matters.

Derek Nash, partner and head of commercial property at Lindsays, said: “It is a pleasure to welcome Michael to the team.

“For all parties, financial risk in construction can be a real challenge. One size does not fit all in the approach to managing this and so much else.

“It is important that robust contracts – specific to the details of every project – are in place.

“Michael’s experience across a range of sectors and project types will bring real benefits to the clients we advise to ensure that they are in the best possible position to both safeguard themselves and the developments in which they are involved.”

Michael has considerable experience advising clients across the private and public sectors, supporting developers, contractors, consultants and funders involved in everything from property developments to significant construction projects.
