Cameron Lorenc: The Man Who Reminds Us You Can’t Cancel God

In a world where faith often seems at odds with modern culture, Cameron Lorenc stands as a bold voice asserting that, despite societal pressures, faith in God remains irreplaceable. His new book, You Cannot Cancel God, takes a deeper dive into religion’s spiritual, emotional, and societal benefits—offering what he describes as eight infinite gifts of religion to a generation that may have overlooked their importance.

Lorenc’s message reaches a wide audience, from devout believers to those who may have distanced themselves from religion. He points to the growing secularization of modern life, noting how some people and organizations have actively tried to push religion aside. Despite these efforts, he believes that God’s presence and influence are enduring. His book emphasizes how faith provides essential guidance for individuals, families, and society.

Cameron Lorenc wasn’t always focused on spiritual matters. Born in Torrance, California, in 1948, he spent the first half of his life working in the corporate world, specifically in advertising. However, at the age of 40, he returned to school to earn a master’s degree in psychology and shifted his career toward helping troubled families and marriages. Over the past 28 years, Lorenc has observed that families with a religious foundation tend to have more tools to handle life’s challenges.

Lorenc noticed that religion often provided these families with additional options for navigating personal and relational difficulties. Faith offered them helpful reminders about how to treat others, especially within the family unit. His spiritual journey deepened when he saw his grandchildren growing up with little exposure to religion, leading him to start writing down his thoughts on faith. What began as a simple letter eventually grew into his book.

What started as a personal letter to his grandchildren eventually became a book aimed at a broader audience. Initially, Lorenc wrote down his thoughts on the role of faith, intending to pass them on to future generations. As he expanded on these thoughts, the letter grew into a more comprehensive reflection on the benefits of religion.

This deeply personal writing process eventually culminated in You Cannot Cancel God: The Eight Infinite Gifts of Religion. In the book, Lorenc emphasizes the value religion brings for individuals, families, and communities.

Lorenc is particularly concerned about how societal values are shifting. He highlights the dangers of cancel culture, where certain beliefs—including religious ones—are being sidelined or dismissed. For him, faith provides stability in a fast-changing and often uncertain world. He argues that the principles taught in religion offer an unchanging moral compass.

This belief in the power of religion extends beyond Christianity. Lorenc acknowledges the shared values found in many faiths, including Judaism and Islam. He reflects on a recent experience attending a Jewish service, where he didn’t understand Hebrew; the values of integrity, respect, and love were clear to him. These are the kinds of values that he believes all religions can offer.

Lorenc has also seen firsthand how attending religious services can positively impact relationships. He shares the story of a couple who found their time spent in religious settings more meaningful than traditional date nights. The calming environment and lack of distractions helped them connect more deeply.

Lorenc views faith as a source of strength, much like a battery that needs to be recharged regularly. When people feel emotionally drained, attending religious services, praying, or meditating can help restore their energy and perspective.

Religion, in his view, offers infinite resources for personal growth and resilience. Individuals can find the motivation and strength to face life’s challenges by engaging in these spiritual practices.

Despite the spiritual depth of his book, Lorenc takes a practical approach to faith. He understands that not everyone is ready to fully embrace religion, but he encourages people to take small steps toward incorporating it into their lives. He believes that faith can offer valuable tools for navigating life, even if someone is beginning to explore it.

Lorenc is also pragmatic in his views on cancel culture. While society may attempt to downplay the importance of religion, he believes the core principles of faith—such as honesty, compassion, and integrity—are as relevant today as ever.

Lorenc’s journey as an author is far from over. As he continues to promote You Cannot Cancel God, he has already begun work on his next project, a book focused on the role faith plays in troubled marriages. His goal remains the same: to offer guidance and support to those who are struggling and to remind readers of the value that faith can bring to their lives.

In writing his books, Lorenc aims to inspire readers to reconsider the role of religion, not only in their own lives but in the lives of their families and communities. His work seeks to reignite conversations around faith and encourage people to explore their spiritual options.
