A HISTORIC Edinburgh hotel dating back to the mid-1800s has been acquired by a Dubai-based luxury property group.

The Bruntsfield Hotel was purchased by Dutco, based in the Middle East and currently boasting an impressive property and business portfolio, from previous owners Castleforge for an undisclosed sum.

Located on Bruntsfield Road just off the Bruntsfield Links, the plush hotel boasts 74 rooms, a bar and a restaurant.

Castleforge bought the property in 2021, only recently finishing a refurbishment of the building.

It is now set for another revamp with Dutco announcing significant investment with the aim of transforming the property.

It is the second luxury property in Scotland to be purchased by Dutco this year with the business previously acquiring the Mar Hall Golf and Spa resort near Glasgow.

The Bruntsfield Hotel started out as three large townhouses in 1861, which were operated as doctors’ offices.

Under Dutco’s ownership, business is expected to proceed as normal with bookings for various events and stays at the hotel to go ahead.

Nelson Gibb, group chief executive officer at Dutco Group, said, “Expanding further into Scotland’s vibrant hospitality market so soon after acquiring Mar Hall reflects our strong belief in Scotland as a world-class destination.

“We look forward to bringing our vast hospitality expertise to reposition The Bruntsfield and contributing to its continued success as a cherished part of the Edinburgh hospitality landscape.”
