EDINBURGH hotels are charging punters a whopping £1,300 for just two nights during the Oasis reunion tour.
When the Gallagher brothers come to the capital from 8-12 August for their reunion show next year, hotel prices are set to skyrocket.
Booking in advance won’t help keep the extortionate prices down though, with one local checking prices at the Holiday Inn in the city centre, only to be quoted £1,300, or £650 for one night.
The relatively cheap hotel will charge around £145 any other night according to their website – but will be almost four times as much for the couple of nights that the Manchester-based band are around.
Locals have blamed the increased pricing on the lack of Airbnbs in the city, with recent reports revealing that 90% of applications to establish short term lets are rejected by the council.
A high demand for short term stays coupled with a shortage of available options has impacted prices resulting in the costly hotel stays.
The price does appear to fluctuate to even more astronomical prices for the nights in question as a further local was quoted £1,469 for two nights in August with prices seemingly rising by the minute as space books up.
This reporter decided to have a look for himself at the price he could expect to pay and, after investigation, was quoted an eye-watering £825 per night for two days in August.
The final quote as of the time of writing was £1,700 for two nights at the hotel, which usually charges £145 a night.
The original post showing the hotel’s sky-high prices has since received over 720 likes and more than 50 comments from shocked Scots.
One user wrote: “They’ll say supply and demand but that’s just greed and price gouging. No wonder Fringe goers getting put off, both acts and punters alike, robbing people blind.”
Another replied: “Edinburgh Council is shutting down Airbnb all over the city and people are cheering about it because of ‘greedy landlords’.
“This is the result and only the tip of the iceberg. Just wait until the festival.”
