SCOTTISH law firm BTO has confirmed that it has appointed Ian McCann as a construction and engineering team partner.
BTO expects his varied experience to be a positive thing for the firm, noting that he can give “strategic advice”.
Ian has worked in non-contentious construction law and engineering for nearly 30 years, representing clients in the UK and Europe.
He also has experience as an ambassador for the Causeway: Ireland—Scotland business interchange, having been the company’s secretary and board member since its inception.
When speaking on the appointment, Grant Hunter, BTO’s managing partner, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ian to the firm.
“His vast experience, from working in a number of UK-wide legal firms, and his client-focused approach make him a strong asset.
“As we continue to grow and strengthen both our contentious and non-contentious construction and engineering services.”
The team which Ian will join is overseen by Fraser Hopkins, who said: “Ian’s portfolio of prominent projects, including The Edinburgh Trams project and the redevelopment of the St James Quarter in Edinburgh, makes him a first-class addition to the team who will both support and help grow our client base.
“Likewise, being triple-qualified to practice law in Scotland, England and Wales, and Northern Ireland positions Ian as a perfect adviser in our cross-border projects.”
While briefly discussing his appointment, Ian McCann said: “I am delighted to join what is now recognised as a ‘go to’ construction team in the Scottish legal market across a number of sectors.
“I look forward to working closely with Fraser and the team and leading on the development of BTO’s non-contentious construction practice, building on my experience and longstanding relationships with significant businesses in the construction industry.”
Ian’s previous role was at Shoosmiths, based in Edinburgh, where he was also a partner on their construction and engineering team.
