ED Sheeran has been introduced to Buckfast after appearing backstage at an Irish rap group’s concert.
The musician, 33, was snapped with Kneecap, a Belfast trio known for rapping in the Irish language, after their gig at venue Vicar Street in Dublin on Tuesday.
The band shared snaps of Sheeran and themselves swigging from bottles of ‘Buckie’ and holding them up to the camera.
Scots already familiar with the drink – which has gained a stereotype for being one of the nation’s boozes of choice – were quick to warn Sheeran of an inevitable hangover, especially after he had also sampled Beamish, an Irish stout.
Pictures show Sheeran wearing an orange flannel shirt over a black t-shirt and jeans, gathered with the band, who are in tracksuits.
One wears a knitted balaclava in the three colours of the Irish flag.
The band members pose for a picture with Sheeran as they hold their Buckfast up to the camera.
A livelier picture shows them necking from their bottles, with Sheeran looking the most enthusiastic, with his eyes closed and head tilted back.
The snaps were shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Introducing Ed to Buckfast and Beamish.”
The post has since received over 3,000 likes and a host of comments from fans sharing their reactions.
One wrote: “Jeez (sic), the hangovers. Hope you told him to drink plenty of water too.”
A second agreed: “Never mix the grape and the grain = terrible hangover.”
Another commented: “Aye (sic) to the Buckfast, but you can keep the other stuff.”
A fourth quipped: “Legal Class A that stuff.”
Another added: “A whole crate and I might just get through one of his songs.”
