EDINBURGH locals have been left fuming as a “boy racer” was filmed flying along a cycle path in a quiet neighbourhood – and reportedly hitting a family’s dog as he did so.
Michele Bernardini was walking his dog on the quiet path connecting South Trinity Road and Wardie Road in the north of the city yesterday when the BMW came roaring up behind him.
Whilst the YouTuber was able to get himself and his pooch out of the perilous driver’s path, he claims the family walking behind him weren’t so lucky, with the car knocking their dog over.
Video taken by Michele shows him mid-stroll along the path, with autumn leaves littering what is usually a peaceful scene in the otherwise bustling capital.
However, Michele and his golden retriever have been forced to the side of the path and stand just beyond a bridge, which a silver BMW comes roaring under.
The car comes flying past, narrowly avoiding Michele and his dog, as well as another walker further ahead.
The car kicks up the leaves on the path as it flies off into the distance, with the driver using the walkway as his personal playground.
Michele can be heard breathing a sigh of relief, having managed to duck out the way of the mad motorist.
However, a child’s horrified screams and cries can then be heard in the distance alongside what sounds like the pained howls and whines of a dog.
The footage cuts out as Michele takes off in investigation of the noises.
In a later comment providing context, Michele claims that a family with children and a dog were walking behind him, and the dog was struck by the tearaway vehicle.
He claims to have reported the incident to the police and shared his footage online yesterday with the caption: “A car was driving on the path between South Trinity Road and Wardie Road.
“A family with children and a dog were behind me, and unfortunately, the dog was hit by the car.
“The vehicle is a BMW, and the licence plate number is shown in the attached picture. The incident has already been reported to the police.”
The video has since received dozens of likes and comments from social media users stunned by the reckless driver’s actions.
One user wrote: “Oh my god. I hope the dog is okay! The kid’s screams at the end of the video are heartbreaking.”
Another added: “That must be stolen. Please let it not be the latest horror. Cars on the cycle paths.”
A third wrote: “How awful.”
Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
Speaking today a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver of a BMW 5 series seen driving dangerously in the Leith and Trinity areas of Edinburgh on the afternoon of Sunday, 20 October, 2024.
“A dog was struck by the car and taken to the vet.”
