A MAN may have found the “cheapest pint in the country” after spotting a branch of Wetherspoons offering a drink for a mere 99p.
The unnamed bloke shared a snap of a poster in the window of the chain’s Tilley Stone pub in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, advertising the unbelievable price.
He couldn’t believe what he was seeing as he branded the bargain, which he says reminded him of prices from over 40 years ago, as “cheaper than water”.
However, despite the dirt-cheap price, some still had their doubts, complaining that the quality of the beer would leave a lot to be desired.
The poster advertises the pub’s current special deals, with a pint of Worthington’s bitter on offer for just 99p.
Punters could also get a pint of Carling or Coors for £2.49 or Budweiser for £2.69, a step-up in price but still impressively cheap.
Despite others sharing their bargain pints with the bloke, nobody has been able to top his discovery.
The snap was shared to social media on Sunday with the caption: “99p. Gateshead High Street.”
It has since received over 260 likes and a slew of comments from Brits keen to share their thoughts.
One said: “That’s got to be the cheapest pint in the country.”
The man replied: “It’s 1970s prices, I couldn’t believe it.”
Another quipped: “The drinks are too weak for Gateshead high street.”
A third commented: “You literally couldn’t get four worse pints.”
Another wrote: “Yeah, but the catch is you have to go to Gateshead.”
A fifth said: “Kin (sic) hell, 99 pence for a pint of Worthington’s, no need to go to the supermarket and get drunk before you go out at them prices.”
The man replied: “Cheaper than water.”
