FOOTBALL fans have been left chuckling at a pair of Ireland fans’ alterations to their strips- replacing sponsor Sky with the words “dodgy box”.
The duo was spotted in an Irish bar in Helsinki ahead of their side’s Nations League clash with Finland on Thursday.
Seemingly in protest against the TV company, they had cleverly customised their own tops by printing “dodgy box” and “Fire Stick” in place of its logo.
The pair’s crafty protest against the broadcasting giant has since attracted praise from a slew of amused fans online.
The tops resemble a genuine Ireland strip, apart from the replacement of the sponsor.
Where a large Sky logo is usually emblazoned across the front, one bloke’s top is printed with “dodgy box”.
This refers to fans’ tendencies to use streaming devices that have been modified to watch football without paying the fees to view the matches officially through multiple broadcasters.
The other reads, “Fire Stick”, referring to the Amazon devices which have been increasingly tampered with to achieve the same result, causing police to crack down on illegal streaming.
Snaps of the pair proudly sporting their altered strips were shared to social media on Friday with the caption: “To the Irish fans that replaced the Sky logo with ‘dodgy box’ and ‘Fire Stick’ I salute you.”
The post has since received over 17,000 likes and more than 50 comments from fans left in stitches.
One said: “Doing this is going to antagonise Sky and bring it to an end. Witty but gobs****s.”
Another added: “Will be funnier if Sky cancel their €8m sponsorship deal.”
A third commented: “Anywhere selling these? Brilliant.”
Another quipped: “That’ll be 30 years in jail.”
A fifth wrote: “Serious craic.”
