A FIFE woman is breaking new ground in the fleet services sector, thanks to specialist training from D&G Autocare, one of Scotland’s largest independent autocare firms.
Alana Mitusch, 30, has become the sole female Fleet Services Manager within a team of four at D&G Autocare’s Kirkcaldy Head Office.
The company’s garages, located in East Kilbride, Airdrie, Edinburgh, and Musselburgh, serve high-profile fleet customers including BT and Mitre.
“I’m really enjoying my role,” said Alana.
“I’m so glad I decided to go for it and take on a fresh challenge.”
Alana initially joined D&G in an administrative role before leaving to explore other opportunities, only to return seeking something beyond office work.
After training in Fleet Services for the past nine months, she now oversees crucial scheduling and coordination tasks, keeping fleet vehicles on the road.
Her training included learning to use the RSC and ARI platforms, essential for booking MOT, servicing, and repairs for fleet customers across the four garages.
“A large part of what I do is coordination,” explained Alana.
“Time literally is money for these businesses, so it’s crucial to manage the diaries and ensure we meet fleet service demands while balancing our commitments to retail clients.”
Despite the steep learning curve, which includes mastering pricing and specialised vehicle parts, Alana is thriving in the role, with full support from her male colleagues.
“The industry is fast-paced and varied,” she said. “But I can still get my nails done without worrying about anything dirty or physical!”
Pete Wood, operations director at D&G Autocare, praised Alana’s progress: “Well done to Alana—she’s doing absolutely brilliantly and proving every day that this job can be done just as ably by a woman as a man.
“We are getting positive feedback from our fleet clients on her professional manner and efficiency.”
D&G Autocare, which operates 18 garages across Central Scotland and England, is known for its vibrant Apprentice Mechanic Scheme, helping young people enter the industry.
The company also recently expanded into England, opening a new garage in Carlisle, Cumbria.
