A ROAD rage incident escalated into a fearsome fistfight after a postman and a member of the public traded blows over what appeared to be a motoring disagreement.
The pair were filmed scrapping on Leytonstone High Road in Waltham Forest, East London yesterday, where the brawling motorist could be heard seemingly raging over the postie’s attitude.
Filmed from a passing car, the two fought right in the door of the Royal Mail post van, with the postman eventually being overpowered and shoved back inside his vehicle.
The footage shows the two brawling men rolling against the door of the van, grabbing at each other’s throats and throwing punches at one another.
The motorist appears to be trying to shove the postman back into his van, grabbing him by the throat and head and pushing him into the vehicle’s open door.
The postman, who is wearing a camouflage hat, fights back furiously against the black-clad motorist.
An empty post bag on the floor is kicked around and discarded by the two men as they focus all their attention on their violent clash.
They can be heard shouting at one another, presumably about the traffic incident that caused the brawl, with the man in black furiously growling: “Mate, I stayed sitting behind you, you give it all the f***ing big ’un (sic).”
The postman is eventually thrown face first into his Royal Mail van, ending the fight as he bangs his head on the driver side door arch.
The incident was recorded by a passing motorist who shared the footage to social media yesterday with the caption: “Happened on Leytonstone High Street.”
It has since over 1,900 likes and more than 285 comments from social media users stunned by the violent display.
One user said: “Why is the guy filming and not helping?”
Another joked: “Don’t shoot the messenger.”
A third replied: “Tampering with the Royal Mail. It’s a criminal offence according to an episode of Rising Damp.”
Another joked: “The price of first-class stamps takes the piss though.”
A fifth added: “Average day in London.”
