BRITAIN’S Peruvian embassy has finally been showing off one of its most famous exports after Paddington Bear was spotted on display in its front window.
The loveable bear, who famously hails from “Darkest Peru”, was spotted in the window of the building in Westminster, Central London on Sunday.
Seeing him peering out of the window holding a Peruvian flag, Brits have been quick to speculate why he has only just now made an appearance at the embassy.
Some believe it is a nod to his latest film outing, Paddington in Peru, which is due to be released this November.
Paddington appears to be perched on a windowsill, wearing his iconic blue duffel coat and red hat.
He holds a suitcase in one hand, and a Peruvian flag has been tucked into the other.
A sign above reads, “I am home”, which some have linked to the film, in which Paddington and his adopted family, the Browns, visit his birth country.
A blue plaque commemorating poet Wilfrid Scawen Blunt, who lived in the building in the 19th century, is also attached to the wall, which some Brits have jokingly requested be replaced with one for Paddington.
The picture was shared to social media on Sunday with the caption: “Terribly sweet at the Peruvian Embassy.”
It has since received over 18,000 likes and a host of comments from Brits left tickled by the sighting.
One joked: “Is Paddington a political prisoner now?”
A second commented: “The new film out in November is Paddington in Peru so they’re obviously capitalising on it.”
Another wrote: “I’m sure he’s being treated to the best marmalade sandwiches in there.”
Another added: “I hope he doesn’t start smearing the walls with marmalade.”
A fifth said: “Has anyone ever heard of the person the blue plaque commemorates? Put one up for Paddington.”
Another quipped: “They deported him?”
