CHROMACITY, a leading Scottish laser technology firm, has successfully secured over £1m in new funding to support the launch of its innovative ultrafast laser tech.
The Edinburgh-based company has received substantial funding from existing investors, including Eos Advisory, Kelvin Capital, and Scottish Enterprise.
It specialises in developing and manufacturing ultrafast, tunable, compact, and affordable infra-red lasers.
This launch of ultrafast laser technology will target agricultural emissions monitoring, thanks to additional UK Government funding, as well as the healthcare market.
Chromacity’s latest product, the 920, is designed for medical imaging, offering an affordable light source for diagnostics, including biological imaging of collagen.
Collagen, a fundamental component of skin, muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments, can be illuminated by the 920, facilitating early diagnosis of various medical conditions.
The laser generates light pulses as short as 100 femtoseconds, minimising collateral damage to samples during examination.
Julian Hayes, recently appointed CEO of Chromacity, has expressed his enthusiasm for the new product.

Andrew McNeill from Eos Advisory and Susie Fisher from Kelvin Capital highlighted the significance of the company’s achievements, saying: “Chromacity is at the forefront of knowledge-intensive engineering in Scotland.

“The coming years are now focused on engaging in new UK and international markets, including biological imaging.”
The company’s international customer base includes prestigious institutions such as Sandia National Laboratories, Harvard University, and the US Air Force.

Chromacity has also been awarded funding from the Innovate UK programme to create a new monitoring instrument using its patented infra-red laser technology.
This instrument will provide real-time measurements of key greenhouse gases, including methane, ethane, and ammonia, supporting the drive towards net-zero in agriculture.
Chromacity’s continued expansion and innovation in the laser technology sector position it as a significant player in both healthcare and environmental sustainability.
