Morrisons staff steal show at Leeds Pride as Brits brand store’s pun-filled signs as “comedy gold”

MORRISONS staff stole the show at Leeds Pride as they were spotted brandishing a host of pun-filled signs that have been branded “comedy gold”.

The supermarket workers were spotted in the parade on Church Row in the West Yorkshire city during the parade yesterday.

Bystanders were quick to notice their placards, which cleverly used grocery shopping-related puns to show support.

They appeared to have been specially designed in the style of signs seen in the British supermarket and have been praised by users online as the correct way to be an ally.

An image of Morrisons staff marching in the Leeds pride parade. They are walking away from the camera, wearing green company-branded t-shirts which read "Proud to support the LGBT+ community." Some are waving flags, two are holding signs. One reads: "Need help packing, Queen?" and the other reads: "Sashay to the salad bar." Two men, one wearing a rainbow tie-dye t-shirt, are visible in the foreground.
The signs grabbed people’s attention on social media

Images capture the group of staff marching with the crowds.

They can be identified by their green t-shirts bearing the company logo on the back, underneath which reads: “Proud to support the LGBT+ community.”

A Morrisons delivery van with a Pride flag painted on the back is also visible, as is somebody aptly pushing a supermarket trolley.

Many of the staff are waving company-branded Pride flags themselves, but some hold up signs on wooden sticks featuring a selection of hilarious puns.

One reads: “We like it fruity.”

Another reads: “Some butchers are gay, get over it”, a reference to posters made by LGBT+ rights charity Stonewall

A third bears an image of a paper shopping bag, and reads: “Need help packing, Queen?”

Another reads: “Sashay to the salad bar.”

The images were shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Deeply obsessed with Morrisons Pride.”

They have since received over 21,000 likes and more than 50 comments from social media users cheered up by the scenes.

One wrote: “Corporate Pride normally gives me the ick but this is so good.”

A second said: “Aw, I detest Morrisons but this is awesome.”

Another commented: “I’m glad we all think ‘sashay to the salad bar’ is comedy gold because I’ve never met a gay person who didn’t like a Morrisons salad.”

A fourth wrote: “Now this is how you be an ally.”

Another said: “This is everything.”
